Just to clarify, I am not saying that The New World Symphony puts him at "god" status; I am definitey not a huge fan of that particular piece. What puts him at god status are his earlier symphonies; Nos. 3,4,5,6, and 8 are terrific. His Mass in D and Te deum are other magnificient pieces that deserve more respect, especially in the concert hall.

Odd, Most people who know the composer put 7 at the top (I prefer 5 myself....though still love 9, and of course 8. Can't beat the 3rd movement of 7 either).

Of course, he's FAR more than symphonies. He's actually one of my 'completist' composers, so I have, and enjoy, a large majority of his available music....

Y'all have got it wrong. Remember what Salieri said?:

[You, Mozart, are a god, and you yourself don't know it]

(from Pushkin, Mozart & Salieri)

Dvorak is a god, hands down.

I very much agree. His 8th symphony, in particular, is absolutely fabulous (recently heard it at a concert, amazing). His cello concerto is also astounding.

As for right now, I'm listening to Mahler's 1st Symphony (Michael Gielen interpretation).

Janacek's House of the Dead, live from the MET via Sirius Satellite Radio internet stream. This is a superb production of a masterpiece. I recommend the DVD of this production taped in Europe, conducted by Boulez.

Isn't that fantastic? I love Janacek's operas. Have you seen the DVD of Cunning Little Vixen with Thomas Allen and Sir Charles Mackerras? Cunning Little Vixen is my favorite of Janacek's operas, especially the glorious finale. I'm partial to Vec Makropulos as well.

Oh and right now I'm listening to Scriabin's Promethee performed by Boulez, Anatol Ugorski, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Beethoven - Symphony no. 7 finale

Ok, it's ended, cue applause...

(It sounds pretty good for a MIDI transcription!)

The symphony or the applause?
