Osceola School District Names Three Individuals As 2024 Outstanding School Volunteers of the Year
The Osceola School District has named the following individuals as its 2024 Outstanding School Volunteers of the Year in recognition of their exceptional commitment to student learning and success:
Adult Outstanding School Volunteer of the Year - SandraVega, Partin Settlement Elementary
Through each and every project she has assisted with, Ms. Vega has made an impact on student achievement at Partin Settlement Elementary. In the short time Sandra has been volunteering at Partin Settlement Elementary, she has moved the school's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) store and organized it in the new location, as well as organized the school's Families In Transition (F.I.T.) food pantry. In addition, she picks up bakery donations from Publix and delivers them to campus, where she packs and distributes them to the school's students most in need every Friday. By making sure that F.I.T. students have food bags, they are better able to focus in the classroom. Her help with the PBIS store helps the school promote attendance, positive student behavior, and overall positive climate of the school. School staff attest that she is willing to help with anything they ask her to do, as she has volunteered approximately 250 hours to Partin Settlement Elementary in the last three months alone.
Senior Outstanding School Volunteer of the Year - Debbie Newell, Zenith Accelerated Learning Academy/COPE
Ms. Newell was a long-time employee of the school district back when she started the Creating Opportunities for Parenting Education (COPE) program in support of young ladies who either recently had their babies or were expectant mothers. Over the years, the COPE program has grown, and Ms. Newell continues to be a stalwart for the program. She oversees the community donation room on the Zenith campus, receiving weekly donations from the Celebration Foundation and from the Central Florida Food Bank to help support students and local community. She mentors, feeds, mothers, and truly cares for the young ladies who need her guidance, possibly food for the weekend or clothes for a younger sibling, and definitely a kind word or reassuring hug.
Youth Outstanding School Volunteer of the Year - Claire Ziemba, Celebration High
Claire is someone who has strived in her four years at Celebration High School to bring the best out in the student body. Through her work as Student Government President (SGA), she helped to raise $2,000 for breast cancer research. She created a positivity week to change the stigma of mental health, allowing students to express themselves. Claire founded the People, Earth & Animals organization that raised $1,300 for relief in Ukraine. which was recognized by UNICEF. She also volunteers with Disney’s Wilderness Preserve and Broken Tree Ranch working and caring for animals and was a Disney Volunteer Ambassador for Cancer Marathon Runs. In her “spare” time she is a College Board SAT Peer Tutor for students online and speaks to incoming IB students and their parents about what the IB program can do for them. Her role as Student Government President has allowed her to directly impact the positive culture of the school. Claire Ziemba is an outstanding individual who represents so much of what the Osceola School District strives for young people to be, which is caring, compassionate, and empathetic to others.
These three volunteers will be recognized by theOsceola County School Board at their Board Meeting on May 28,2024, and they will be submitted by Superintendent Dr. Mark Shanoff as nominees for theFlorida Department ofEducation's 2024 Outstanding School VolunteerAward at thestate level.

El Distrito Escolar de Osceola ha nombrado a las siguientes personas como sus Voluntarios Escolares Destacados del Año 2024 en reconocimiento a su compromiso excepcional con el aprendizaje y el éxito de los estudiantes:
Voluntaria Escolar Adulta Destacada del Año - Sandra Vega, Partin Settlement Elementary
A través de todos y cada uno de los proyectos en los que ha ayudado, la Sra. Vega ha tenido un impacto en el rendimiento estudiantil en la Escuela Elemental Partin Settlement. En el poco tiempo que Sandra ha trabajado como voluntaria en la Escuela Elemental Partin Settlement, trasladó la tienda de Intervenciones y Apoyos de Comportamiento Positivo (PBIS, por sus siglas en inglés) de la escuela y la organizó en la nueva ubicación, así como también organizó la despensa de alimentos de Familias en Transición (F.I.T., por sus siglas en inglés) de la escuela. Además, recoge donaciones de la panadería de Publix y las entrega en el recinto escolar, donde las empaca y las distribuye todos los viernes a los estudiantes más necesitados de la escuela. El asegurarse de que los estudiantes de F.I.T. tengan bolsas de comida, hace que puedan concentrarse mejor en el salón de clases. Su ayuda en la tienda PBIS ayuda a la escuela a promover la asistencia, el comportamiento positivo de los estudiantes y el clima general positivo de la escuela. El personal de la escuela da fe de que ella está dispuesta a ayudar con cualquier cosa que le pidan, ya que en tan solo los últimos tres meses ha trabajado como voluntaria aproximadamente 250 horas en la Escuela Elemental Partin Settlement.

Estos tres voluntarios serán reconocidos por la Junta Escolar del Condado Osceola en su Reunión de la Junta en Mayo 24, 2024 y serán presentados por el superintendente Dr. Mark Shanoff como nominados para el Premio al Voluntario Escolar Sobresaliente 2024 del Departamento de Educación de Florida a nivel estatal.
